Small APO refractors offer levels of portability, versatility, field of view, day/night viewing, CCD imaging, digiscoping etc. that large instruments can’t manage. And because APO refractors produce images essentially free of color fringing, and have no central obscuration, both low and high power views have the highest contrast. They are also rugged and easily carried on-board airplanes, so you can travel to exotic and dark-sky locations. Ironically, many large instruments have insufficient field-of-view to observe some spectacular deep-sky objects such as the North American nebula, all three sections of the Veil Nebula, the full extent of the Andromeda Galaxy, the Double Cluster, etc.
Every Tele Vue refractor, from the Tele Vue-60 to NP-127, can give at least a 3° field (six Moon diameters wide). And if you want illustrations of what these scopes can do on deep-sky objects, check out “The Messier Objects”, and “The Caldwell Objects” books by Stephen James O'Meara. All his illustrations were made using a 4” Tele Vue telescope visually!
When it comes to viewing double stars, the Moon, Sun or planets, small APO refractors, because of their inherent high contrast and lower sensitivity to atmospheric turbulence, often rival or surpass far larger instruments. Tele Vue refractors resolve to “Dawes Limit”, easily permitting 60x per inch of aperture for superb high-power viewing when atmospheric “seeing” permits.
And for imaging, some of the most astonishing deep-sky and planetary images come from small APO refractors.
Because they are built by Tele Vue in our Chester, NY facility, you also get:

Helpful personal advice
Exemplary construction: every model uses precision machined and black-anodized aluminum housings; each focuser is hand-fitted for smoothness; sliding dew-shields and adjustable balancing mountings.
Optically, each instrument is made with hand-tuned lens spacings to assure diffraction-limited performance, along with full multicoatings for maximum contrast. There’s a reason why the book “The Backyard Astronomer's Guide” says of our NP101: “optics don’t get any better than this.”
Add in the unique Tele Vue eyepiece lines, mounts, accessories, and you’ll understand why we deliver products “even better than you imagined.”
In summary, you get compact, convenient and beautifully handcrafted “heirloom” quality instruments, capable of extraordinary low-to-high power ranges, with fields of view up to 5.5° (over 11 Moon diameters wide), and great photographic/imaging capabilities. Their sharpness and contrast levels also place them above any other instruments for nature, wildlife and bird viewing (Cornell Ornithology lab reports). Lastly, adding Bino Vue to 85mm or larger Tele Vue scopes gives you amazingly dimensional “you are there” comfortable two-eye viewing.

CELESTRON CPC SERIES
Tomorrow’s next generation 8”, 9.25”, and 11” computerized GPS SCT’s are here now!
The telescopes of tomorrow are here today! New alignment technology, advanced engineering, and a bold new design at a price that is out of this world!
Celestron's new CPC Series with revolutionary SkyAlign Alignment
Technology re-defines everything that amateur astronomers are looking for — quick and simple alignment, GPS, unsurpassed optical quality, ease of set-up and use, ergonomics, enhanced computerization and, most important, affordability.
The CPC Series' internal GPS receiver automatically downloads the date and time from orbiting satellites and pinpoints its exact location on Earth. This eliminates the need for you to manually enter the date, time, longitude and latitude.
Celestron's Revolutionary SkyAlign
Once the CPC's internal GPS has established the telescope's position, aligning the telescope is as easy as 1-2-3! Simply locate and use hand control to manually point (slew) the telescope to three bright celestial objects. You do not need to know the names of the stars — you may even pick the moon or bright planets! Celestron's NexStar® software technology will model the night sky to determine the position of every star, planet and celestial object above the horizon. Once aligned, the remote hand control allows direct access to each of the celestial catalogs in its user-friendly database.
Celestial Object Database
The CPC database contains over 40,000 celestial objects including Messier objects, the Caldwell Catalog, as well as NGC Galaxies, nebulae and planets. User-definable filter limits make navigating through this expansive database quicker and easier. Filter Limits let you filter out objects that are outside of your local horizon (ie, if trees or mountains were in the way).
Identify feature tells you what you're looking at, but it can also be a very fun way to tour around the sky. Just point the telescope up somewhere and ask it to identify Messier objects (for instance) and it will show you the 5 nearest Messier objects to your position and let you GOTO them. You can keep doing this for different parts of the sky or for different object types -- it is a lot of fun.
There's also "Solar Sys Align" that lets you align on the sun or moon for daytime observing -- it is easy to use this to see planets or bright stars in the day.
The new CPC Series telescopes, like our acclaimed Advanced Series and premium CGE Series telescopes feature meticulously matched and hand-figured optical systems. In addition, all CPC models are diffraction limited and available with StarBright and StarBright XLT High Performance Optical Coatings. With the introduction of the CPC Series, Celestron has “gone back to the drawing board” and re-designed, re-engineered, and re-invented a telescope family that provides superior quality, unsurpassed ease of use, and incomparable value. All CPC models ship standard with our NexRemote telescope control software.

MEADE LX200-ACF SERIES
The most widely used research telescope on earth now comes with the most advanced optical system. Meade's LX200-ACF brings Advanced Coma-Free (ACF) optics within reach of aspiring astronomers everywhere. Nearly every observatory reflector in the world uses an aplanatic (coma-free) optical system like the Ritchey-Chrétien (RC), including NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. Now you can own similar optics to what the professionals use. The LX200-ACF includes all the field-proven features of the LX200 including GPS, Primary Mirror Lock, Zero Image-Shift Microfocuser, Oversized Primary Mirror, SmartDrive™;, Smart Mount™, AutoStar® II and more. Plus, the LX200-ACF comes with observatory-class optics and a Series 5000 26mm 5-Element Plössl eyepiece. The new LX200-ACF. It's the biggest news in astronomy since, well, the LX200.
The "advanced" in Advanced Coma-Free.
A traditional Ritchey-Chrétien (RC) is a type of reflector that delivers a coma-free, flat field of view via hyperbolic primary and secondary mirrors. RC telescopes (from a variety of manufacturers) are found in most of the world's top observatories and NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. Because the mirrors in these telescopes have always been very expensive to make, few amateur astronomers could enjoy them. Fortunately, Meade engineers developed a radical new Advanced Coma Free design by combining a hyperbolic secondary mirror with a corrector-lens-and-spherical-primary-mirror combination that performs as one hyperbolic element. This ACF design produces a coma-free, flat field of view that rivals traditional RC telescopes at a fraction of the cost. The design even eliminates diffraction spikes and improves astigmatism, both of which are inherent in the traditional RC design. When reviewing Meade's LX400-ACF Advanced Coma Free, Sky and Telescope magazine said, " [It] does indeed perform like a [Ritchey-Chrétien]. The difference between the off-axis images (compared to a Schmidt-Cassegrain) was dramatic to say the least."
f/10 Advanced Coma-Free Optics: Building from a classic RC design, Meade has created a new design with the same coma-free pinpoint star images and flatter field that discerning astrophotographers and most professional observatories have come to expect from classic Ritchey-Chrétien optics. Meade's Advanced Coma-Free system also reduces the astigmatism and eliminates diffractions spikes found in classical RCs. The LX200-ACF is the perfect platform for the demanding researcher and imaging enthusiast with telescopes available in apertures of 8 inches, 10 inches, 12 inches, and 16 inches.
Meade Ultra-High Transmission Coatings (UHTCT) increases total light tran+smission and image brightness by nearly 20% over Meade's standard coatings. Objects such as stars, galaxies and nebulae will appear significantly brighter.
Zero Image-Shift Microfocuser allows you to obtain precise image focus with no image movement.
Primary Mirror Lock locks the mirror in place during long-exposure astrophotography.
Oversize Primary Mirror diameters are greater than their listed aperture (e.g., the diameter of the 8" LX200-ACF is actually 8.25"). This additional 1/4" yields a wide, fully illuminated field-of-view.
Smart Mount™ constantly refines pointing accuracy each time an object is centered and updated. Compatible with both equatorial and altazimuth mounts.
Coma Killer - What is coma? It's not some sort of astronomical state of unconsciousness. It's an optical aberration. Precisely defined, coma is a distortion in which the image of a star cannot be focused to a point, but takes on the shape of a comet.
Smart DriveT provides permanent periodic error correction (PPEC) on both axes by learning and averaging error over the course of one or more training periods, thereby minimizing guiding corrections during long-exposure photographs. PPEC is available on both axes and functions in both polar and altazimuth modes.
Sony®GPS Receiver Sensor automatically inputs precise time, date, and geographical location to help quickly and precisely align the telescope.
AutoAlignT - Telescopes with Meade's new AutoAlign come pre-aligned.They are smart scopes that know the night sky right out of the box. AutoAlign picks two fail-proof alignment stars for you and places them right in your view-finder. Just center to fine tune your alignment and the wonders of the universe are at your fingertips.
AutoStar® II controller features "Hot Keys" for quick access to a 145,000 celestial object database. AutoStar II can be updated with the latest software upgrades, guided tours and timely objects like comets free at meade.com.
MEADE LX200-ACF SERIES
MEADE LX90-ACF SERIES
The NEW LX90-ACF represents the latest step in the evolution of the LX90, featuring Meade's f/10 ADVANCED COMA-FREE OPTICS: Building from a classic RC design, Meade has created a new optical design with the same coma-free pinpoint star images and flatter field that discerning astrophotographers and most professional observatories expect. The NEW LX90-ACF with Meade’s Advanced Coma-Free system also reduces the astigmatism and eliminates diffractions spikes found in classical RCs. No competing Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope can make those claims. The LX90-ACF is the perfect platform for the demanding visual observer and imaging enthusiast with telescopes available in apertures of 8 inches, 10 inches, and 12 inches. When it comes to industry-leading optics, depth of features, and computerized operation, the LX90-ACF is the best all-around telescope value you can find.
GPS - LX90-ACF can do more than track satellites. It talks to them as well. Turn it on and the built-in Sony® GPS sensor immediately determines your precise date, time and location. AutoAlign™ then uses this info to align your scope for a tour of the most spectacular sights in the universe. With all the features of the legendary LX90GPS, plus the additon of Advanced Coma-Free optics and the ability to communicate to satellites, the new LX90-ACF now has it all.
AUTOALIGN™ – Telescopes with Meade’s new AutoAlign come pre-aligned. They are smart scopes that know the night sky right out of the box. AutoAlign picks two fail-proof alignment stars for you and places them right in your viewfinder. Just center them to fine tune your alignment and the wonders of the universe are at your fingertips.
OVERSIZED PRIMARY MIRROR – Only Meade manufactures their primary mirrors in diameters larger than their listed aperture (e.g. the diameter of the 8" LX90’s primary mirror is actually 8.25").This additional 1/4" yields a wider, fully illuminated field-of-view, and allows you to see the light other telescopes leave behind.
SMARTFINDER™(RED DOT) & 8 X 50 VIEWFINDER – Quickly and easily locate and center deep sky objects.
SLEW SPEED – The LX90-ACF slews (moves) from star to star at 7 degrees per second. That is more than twice as fast as the competition. This means that over the course of an evening, a Meade LX90-ACF will show you two to three times more objects.
RIGID CAST ALUMINUM FORK MOUNT – The Meade LX90-ACF's Optical Tube Assembly is mounted on two sturdy fork arms giving you a rock solid platform for astrophotography.
LX200™ - SERIES TRIPOD – The LX90-ACF comes standard with the same sturdy field tripod as the LX200-ACF series telescope.
SMART DRIVE™ – Meade’s AutoStar® provides Periodic Error Correction (in polar mode). Over the course of one or more training periods your LX90-ACF will minimize guiding corrections during long exposure astrophotography.
AUTOSTAR CONTROLLER – Meade’s AutoStar® can be updated after purchase. Keep your AutoStar up-to-date, and your LX90-ACF will grow with you for years to come.
